Where to Stay on the Amalfi Coast (On a budget -under $1,000/night)
When it comes to experiencing the Amalfi Coast, one thing becomes abundantly clear: there is no shortage of options. The towns that dot this breathtaking stretch of coastline in Italy each offer their own unique atmosphere, attractions, and quirks. As someone who has navigated the highs and lows of staying in various towns along the Amalfi Coast, I've learned firsthand the do's and don'ts of making the most of this iconic destination. One thing is certain: the concept of a "budget" is non-existent at some upscale hotels along the coast. This curated list will make you feel like you’re still living the high life without breaking the budget.
Getting in: If you’re flying into Rome, there’s a train called the Leonardo Express; you can take this without leaving the airport and it brings you straight into Roma Termini, the main train station. From there you will take a train to Naples. Book a round trip car transfer way in advance to take you to and from your hotel from Naples. Some people will direct you to take the bus as budget-friendly option. Of course this is a great way to save money, but if you’re limited on days, I highly recommend booking a private car. The bus ride could last for hours, and if they encounter a traffic jam, you might be delayed significantly. It’s really the only other option other than public transportation.
I love using this company to book transfers - it’s super easy and you can book a private car to get you to and from your hotel. Kiwi Taxi
Where to stay:
Getting straight to the hotels, once you decide where to stay, there's some great options. Each area has their pros and cons. Positano is great if you don’t mind sacrificing beachfront. Praiano is perfect for the trendy honey-mooning couple who loves a great restaurant scene. Amalfi has some hidden gem hotels that offer waterfront access.
Villa Mary is a “B&B.” By Italian definition, it just means that it’s family run & has excellent service. They offer free breakfast, and one of the most amazing views for a hotel in this price range. The best part about this hotel is that all rooms are updated and modern. You’ll find the best rates in the lower seasons: May-June and September-October. Check Prices
Hotel La Bouganville offers cozy rooms with Italian charm. The highlight is its large terrace for dining with stunning views. Guests also enjoy private beach access for leisurely Amalfi Coast days. It’s perfect for travelers wanting posh Positano indulgence. Check prices.
Grand Hotel Tritone is such a hidden gem in the town of Amalfi. Their beach club speaks for itself and at this price point. No need to spend $$$ on reserving public beach chairs when you have this private beach club in your own hotel. Check prices.
Villa Corallium will leave you lounging by your own private infinity pool, basking in the sunshine on a spacious terrace that overlooks the azure waters of the coast. An added bonus: Il Pirata, a beloved restaurant set inside a cave, is just a 6-minute walk away. Check Prices
Hotel Miramalfi Now this is a budget hotel if you’re traveling on the off-season (May or October), but I couldn’t help but put this on the list for a couple of reasons. First, the beach club is almost an exact duplicate of the famous and ulta-luxurious Santa Caterina Hotel. It’s absolutely stunning. The restaurants have raving reviews, and there’s a seafront outdoor gym. If you can make this work in your budget, you won’t be disappointed. Check Prices
